Waterford Heritage - Hunter 1.1
Waterford distillery have time travelled to 1959, and not in some fancy silver contraption with gadgets and gizmos, but through a 50 gram bag of grain. Hunter 1.1 is the inaugural release of this Irish single malt whiskey, named after the flavourful barley variety introduced by Dr Herbert Hunter in the 50s, but which disappeared from the whiskey making landscape in favour of higher yield crops. Waterford distillery have revived this grain for a limited release of 50 barrels, with the whiskey maturing in a combination of American oak, French oak, and French sweet wine casks.
