A famous and very popular blended whisky, Vat 69 comes with a great deal of history. It was first made in 1882 by William Sanderson - a liquor manufacturer from Leith, Scotland. To create the perfect blend, Sanderson made up 100 different vattings of whisky and hired a panel of expert whisky tasters to select the finest one. They chose the 69th vatting, thus the name, Vat 69. Blended using forty different malt and grain whiskies, this is a smooth, balanced spirit and a perennial favourite with blend drinkers.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Hints of spice and caramel, notes of barley malt, with a soft wheat character. A touch of pear juice.

Palate: Ground almonds and barley malt. Slightly biscuity, more of those pear notes, a little pepper. Sweet, rounded.

Finish: Woody, spiced finish. Caramel.

Overall: Simple, easy-going stuff. If you're looking for a dependable blend, this is an excellent choice.

Great stuff
Absolutely love this whiskey. One of my favorite blends. Shame it's not in the original style bottle though. Wish it was back in stock. Come Master of Malt. Get some more

Charming blend, great basis for Rob Roy cocktails
I am a big fan of blended whiskey and I´ve tried a good number in the last two or three years. Vat 69 is definitely better than both Famous Grouse and the vastly over-rated JW Red. I am not sure how it compares to the JW black. On its own I find it a little medicinal and harsh with honey, caramel and vague smoky notes. However, I mix it it with red vermouth and then it makes for a really lovely base; it´s quite a transformation. I´ve made dry Rob Roys (using Chazelette dry vermouth) and a perfect Rob Roy (50:50 Chazalettes and O. Matter rosso vermouth) and also a Rob Roy with Cocchio red vermouth. All of them were delightful and I think the Vat 69 worked really well lending a lovely whiskey structure to the mix. So, on balance, yes to Vat 69. It´s a bit of a charmer.

Smooth character, a blend to keep on hand always
Vat 69 is a good dependable blend which personally I prefer over Johnny W black label. The pepper and woody notes come out just late enough after you've had a chance to enjoy the pear drop/barley water palette. Drink of choice for a 101st Airborne Captain, what else to say.

Great value whiskey
Originally, I bought one bottle only because I saw it in Band of Brothers. Now, it's my go-to whiskey to share with my buddies during reenactment events. I tried several other whiskeys in same price category, but it was all barely drinkable. This is actually quite nice and easy to drink, even neat. Nowadays, I always have at least one bottle of VAT69 at home and ready to go!

Great value whisky ...really surprised me
I love a great whisky .... so when lockdown in South Africa started and a ban on alcohol was enforced , i could not stock up on the expensive brands. Vat 69 surprised me. You have to let it breathe ... perfect stretched with a club soda on a lazy sunday afternoon.
