Smoke & Mirrors from Ireland's Two Stacks is a peated single malt, made with both double and triple-distilled whiskey, matured in a combination of bourbon casks and imperial stout casks. Expect heavy vanilla and warming chocolate notes, bolstered by the warmth of smoky peat.
Chocolate mousse, barley, earthy smoke.
Chocolate peanuts, dry smoke once again, a slow build of orchard fruit and fragrant vanilla.
A prickle of smoky tea and hints of dark cocoa.
We jocularly call this TWO STROKE because it is a loud, slightly harsh and very smokey racket. Local produce for me but lesser known and lesser appreciated, as often such craft products are. It is an earthy, oily, later dry and cigar-smokey explosion on the palate, with underlying familiar Irish whiskey vanilla-ey malt. Cooley is indeed due south from Islay and not at all as far as it might seem.
