Tullibardine 225 Bottling Note

Distilled at Tullibardine in the Highlands, this is a very tasty new whisky which was finished in a 225 litre cask (thus the name) which previously held maturing Sauternes dessert wine from Chateau Suduiraut. The result is a golden-coloured single malt with a deliciously creamy, fruity flavour.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Citrus peels and allspice. Notes of creamy vanilla, golden syrup, cocoa butter and black pepper.

Palate: Spiced palate entry with notes of candied orange and Seville marmalade. A little dried pineapple and white chocolate.

Finish: Medium finish with lingering sweet spices.

Overall: Superbly fruity whisky with a lovely influence from a dessert wine cask.

Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Cask Finish Reviews

Delicious!

Delicious! We finished the bottle so fast as it was just so good.

Excellent

Just as brilliant as 'Tullibardine' of old. So comforting on a chilly evening.

Smooth and elegant

Great taste and aftertaste. Smooth and hints of sweetness. One of the best in this price range.

Pretty special

I’m normally an Islay drinker but the Tullabardine Sovereign was a nice distraction. This on the other hand is another level. Absolutely no kick, smooth and warming. Really really good.

Perfection in a bottle

Lovely lovely stuff. Perhaps my favourite whisky so far. Highly recommend it. Very smooth, pleasant taste, reminds me a bit of autumn. Really complex and satisfying finish too.

Really smooth highland malt.

Goes well with M and S cheesy wotsits

Not bad, there's better options on the market so far

Nectar d'Or > Arran Sauternes Cask > Tullibardine 225

Good or bad?

I’ve received one of these for my birthday and I’m now intrigued as to whether I gave a “good” or “bad” bottle. Can anyone with either post the bottling date and batch number as marked now base of the bottle for comparison purposes? I think I have a good one, very mellow, certainly see the benefits of the desert wine.

Bit harsh on first taste but mellows on the after taste

I'm not a conasour by any means but I have tried a lot of different singe malts available in different supermarkets and I must say this is one of my favourite non smoky 🥃 bit pricey though

Not to my taste

Smells of old rubber, was very disappointing. Now reserved for adding to Hot Lemon cold remedies

Stunning

Bought this on a whim and it's fastley becoming a favourite. The desert wine finish really enhances this whiskey. If you want to try something new, buy this.

Very Nice

As refreshing as a whisky can be. Lovely and sweet it is well complemented by a nice strong cheese. It has a youthful flavour with its citrus undertones. Maybe not for Talisker or Laphraoig fans, but a nice go to on a Sunday evening.

Not so good

Unfortunately the bottle I have is very harsh, not even as good as a blended whisky. Going by the reviews below some people who are very experienced with whisky have had good bottles, some not so good. Hopefully the distillery can get the quality sorted out so that every bottle is good. I certainly would not pay £40 for one but if you come across a bottle cheaper say £25 it might be worth a punt in case you get a good one

Unbelievably good !

The very best Malt I have ever tasted in a lifetime.

9th February 2018

Unique flavour. Unmissable

Very smooth sweet vanilla finish. Utterly beautiful.

Good one, better than Sovereign like for me.

Perfect

I've sampled a few malts in my time and this is one of the best, the Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Finish. Just had another dram. Pure amber nectar. What more can I say.

Harsh, overpowering sourness - avoid

Bought this on a whim and am pretty disappointed. The bottle I have is extremely harsh and lacking in smoothness, with an underlying almost fungal kind of sourness like accidentally biting into an aspirin or an antibiotic, and none of the sweetness that the blurb on here promises. It's very much on the young, Jura end of the whisky spectrum, so perhaps it would go down better if that's your thing. Perhaps the bottlings are inconsistent or something. I'll stick to Highland Park 12, Bunnahabhain and other favourites in future.

SUPERB

This Tullibardine 225 sauternes is one of the best malt whisky i have tasted, every bit as good as Balvennie double wood. I visited Blackwood serveral times on my way to Aberdeen and tasted a few drams there but this is one of the best.

An acquired taste?

I wonder how much this varies from batch to batch since Sauternes certainly varies hugely from one vintage to another. The conditions for the growth of the Botrytis aren't propitious every year after all. That said, in the bottle I bought and tasted, I find the flavour of the fungus a little overpowering. It renders the nose somewhat sour, masking the marvellous range of fruit scents. Overall, the whisky is well-balanced with a pleasant sweetness to offset the sourness of the "mouldy cork" flavour. I certainly prefer Glenmorangie's Nectar d'Or which manages to retain the raisin sweetness without the mould.

Discovery

First time with tullibardine really liked it sweet fruity and can take a splash of water which smooths things out and brings out more flavours. Seems to be natural colour and slightly higher strength not sure if it's non chill filtered if it is print it on the label but it should be. This distillery is off the radar but now I'm interested.

Canadian Scotch Lover

Great smooth finish

Audrius

On the nose you have a joint selfie of melon and vanilla – with bread photobombing the view. But the palate is more focused: delicious French pastries and freshly cut fruit. Tannic and warming.

26th November 2014

Fruity friend

Very fruity good finish a highly enjoyable drop, got mine direct from the distillery.

Enjoyable perhaps a bit too light in the finish and does not linger long enough, but a pleasant drop and very fruit which is pleasant but one at a time or can seem of light.
