“I bought this as a cheap extra bottle when I purchased a couple of more expensive bottles as I had a few different Tomintoul in the past and always been impressed but may favourite from them is just to expensive now. Did not expect much from it for the price but was pleasantly surprised. Light gentle taste vanilla, surprisingly for a 40% still needs couple of drops of water to get the best taste from it.”

Description

Pronounced 'Tlah', Tlàth means gentle and/or mellow. With Tomintoul known as 'the gentle dram', this particular expression is along the same easy-going Speysider lines and is matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels.

Nose

Quintessentially Speyside. Light, with some sweet toffee and vanilla and hints of mint leaf and citrus peel.

Palate

Light and creamy. Lively white pepper and some oak-driven spiciness dance on the tongue with background layers of nutmeg and toasted vanilla.

Finish

Spicy with notes of shortbread and fresh mint.

Interesting change of pace... but not a favourite

Very smooth and light but lacking the developing after flavours I'm used to from its Speyside neighbours.

Excellent for the price

Really like this very smooth and nice notes of Toffee

Neil Jun 18, 2022

Easy drinking but somewhat characterless

I found this smooth and easy drinking but a bit bland and uninteresting.

Value and taste

This is a firm favourite. Good entry whisky packing a full house of flavours. Very good with a touch of water. However, remember it is a value for money product which falls slightly short of the established malts.
