Tomintoul 16

This is the 16-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from the Tomintoul distillery, matured in selected bourbon casks. It was crafted by fourth-generation distiller, Robert Fleming and it's his go-to malt to this day. Rather elegant and flavoursome, this one.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Medium-bodied and punchy. There are notes of stemmy cut hay and dried grasses, a leafy green note and a touch of rooty earth and fudge.

Palate Notes of boiled sweets, espresso, mochaccino, ground almonds and granary toast with melted butter. Vanilla fudge and thick cream.

Finish The finish is of good length with notes almond and barley sugar.

Beautiful Dram
I remember buying this after I tried some at a place I worked at, it's astonishing how smooth this dram is, I would recommend to beginners getting into whiskey.

roll in the hay
Nose same as palate: Apple cider, hay, and a salty sauce box needing attention.

Finest in Speyside if not Scotland
Tomintoul have a vast range of whiskies now and its not called the gentle dram for nothing but this 16 is head and shoulders above the rest

Smooth
Good but not particularly exciting - quite thin even, but a great start for someone new to whisky or enjoys a milder flavour. It is smooth and a great aperitif. Pretty good value at under £42.

Smooth and mellow
If you're looking for a reasonably aged, smooth and mellow Speyside dram at a very reasonable price, then this may well be for you. Ok, it's not prefect - it's only 40%, is chillfiltered and is not natural colour but it does go down well and taste good. It's not my usual type of dram but i have to admit that I did enjoy it.
