The fourth and final release in Tomatin's French Collection is this cracking Cognac cask finished expression! Like the rest of the range (which includes Sauternes, Rivesaltes, and Monbazillac cask finished whiskies), this is a 12 year old single malt distilled in 2008. However, as we alluded to earlier, this one has enjoyed a finishing period in Cognac casks. This has imparted lip-smacking helpings of red fruit, toasted nut, and festive spice notes. It's also rather fascination to compare the four releases in the series to see the impact the different French drinks have had on the great Scotch whisky at their cores.
Nose Juicy raspberry and cranberry, with a drizzle of caramel and chopped nuts.
Palate Subtly floral at points, though remaining rich in toffee and orange, plus a pinch of nutmeg.
Finish Cinnamon, dates, a hint of dry oak spiciness.
