Timorous Beastie Bottling Note

Joining the ranks of Big Peat and Scallywag is Douglas Laing's Timorous Beastie, a blended malt made entirely of Highland whiskies from distilleries such as Dalmore, Glen Garioch, Glengoyne and more. The name is a nod to the Robert Burns poem 'To a Mouse' and to Burns' wit, as though the mouse in the poem is a timid little thing, this whisky is nothing of the sort!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Acacia honey, creamy boiled sweeties (the strawberry flavour), dried apricots and white grapes. There's a good whack of Sherry influence in here too! A whiff of coastal air and classic Highland heather, too.

Palate Dried fruits, green apples and anise. Sweet grist and malt loaf. Pebble beaches and more heather on the mid palate.

Finish Long. Drying with hot cinnamon sweeties and fresh bread.

Overall Who are you calling timorous? This beastie is big, brave and an absolute blast!

Reviews for Timorous Beastie
Not at all Timorous
Very good seeing as it is a blend of malts not a single one.

For what it is fantastic
I picked up a bottle of this in pitlochry before a tour of Blair athol distillery. Got to say, in fairness I enjoyed this more than their 12 year old.

Very smooth and inoffensive. I don't enjoy peat and this is entirely in the opposite direction from that so perfect for me really. Very fresh, crisp and enjoyable. For the price too at £29.99 a very nice bottle full of character.

Also a fitting tribute to the timerous beastie and very much brought back childhood memories from the poem.

Big beast most impressed
Don’t be fooled by the most, this is a big beast of a dram and perfect for those who love a gristy, honey’d fullsome barley style of malt scotch

Robert Burns
The ultimate Burns Whisky... What a dram and a great price for an incredible drop. This is a great example of why a good blended malt is better than a good single malt!

Chivas Regal???
Personally, I thought i was drinking Chivas Regal which makes this a little pricey for the quality and comparason to CR. Ok neat, great in a whisky coctail.

Definitely not timorous
Admittedly I’m not a seasoned Scotch drinker but I found this a bit harsh. Smells interesting but lost some of that nuance under all the alcohol. Definitely improves with water but maybe just a bit young for something so strong.

Sweet, floral and dry
I forgot I even had it until I packed to move...I must admit I prefer the Rock Oyster and Big Peat more.
That said, I really have not given this a chance...
Here goes...a very floral and sweet dram with a touch of salt for me..a dry finish..
The truth is I want it to taste much different from the other regions and I just need to give this bottle some time..
It is solid enough and I like it very much...The price is fair, ABV is damn fine and the no color or chill filtration is a big plus for me.
The truth is I usually drink better whiskies with age statements of at least 12 and usually 14-18 range.
So, no complaints...
A 3 is about an 80 to me...
