Thomas H Handy Sazerac Rye Whiskey – 2012
This is part of the annual releases from Buffalo Trace's antique collection. The Thomas H Handy Sazerac is a cask strength rye whiskey which wins awards year-on-year - most recently the 2011 edition won Whisk(e)y of the Year in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2013.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Tea leaves, pot pourri, orange zest and leather leading to stem ginger and cherries macerating in Cognac.
Palate
Homemade orange marmalade, crystallised lime peel, truffle and warm winter spices.
Finish
The finish is fantastically long with notes of red cherries, tangerines and crushed black pepper.
Overall
The strength of this carries and conveys its big flavours brilliantly. If you like your big spicy rye whiskeys, this could be for you.
