The source of Finlaggan has remained a very closely guarded secret. To tell the true origin of Old Reserve you'll simply have to taste it and find out!
Slightly medicinal nose with hints of peanut, sticking plasters, manuka honey and digestive biscuits.
Sweet cereals, barley malt, a little peat smoke, TCP, nutmeg and ginger.
A long, sweet finish with toasty oak and peppermint.

If you're a peat smoke lover, there's nothing to beat this at the price. If you're not: move on :-)
If you're not familiar with the style, it's a good introduction at a very good price point. Try this to find out if you like smokey, peaty whisky and then move on to Lagavulin, Ardbeg, or (the best) Laphroig. Or, if you like the style, and want a daily drinker without spending $50 a pop, definitely go for it if you can.
Like all single malts an acquired taste, which I enjoy, the smokey, peat, fishing net bouquet, makes it quite special. It tastes better as one gets down the bottle, will recommend and buy again
Cracks me up that everyone gives this smoky peaty very inexpensive either top stars or nearly none. I'm delighted to have found it in my local Trader Joe's because my local liquor stores don't carry any single malt in my price range. It reminds me of the lovely Laphroaig that I cannot afford but would drink every day if I could.
I bought this one “on sale” at our local shop. Regretted it the moment i opened the bottle. That chemical smell! Just afwul. And even with some water added it just kept killing my tastebuds...not good! I returned the bottle this afternoon. The shop owner wasn’t suprised. I was not the first one complaining about it. Bought myself i nice Glenfarclass.. :-)
