The source of Finlaggan has remained a very closely guarded secret. To tell the true origin of Old Reserve you'll simply have to taste it and find out!
Slightly medicinal nose with hints of peanut, sticking plasters, manuka honey and digestive biscuits.
Sweet cereals, barley malt, a little peat smoke, TCP, nutmeg and ginger.
A long, sweet finish with toasty oak and peppermint.
Typical islay, a good strong peaty nose with hints of honey, ozone, and fishing net. A long finish as dry as a stone wall. I suspect a young Lagavulin. Comparable to the Bruichladdich, Bowmore, and Lagavulin. Doesn't have the American oak sweetness of the Laphroig but has that dry mineral finish that screams Islay. A smokey gem in the rough.
I personally didn't enjoy this, but my son, who bought it for me to try, loves it. He describes it as "like drinking a mahogany piano." Who am I to argue with that? The rating is his.
Fantastic scotch for the price. Not as complex as Lagavulin, but I wouldn't expect it to be for $20 (where my local shops sell Lagavulin for 5 times more!) Just tried for the first time today and I was pleasantly surprised! If you enjoy a good peaty/Islay scotch, you have to give it a try. I will always have a bottle of this on the shelf for when I want an affordable peaty nightcap.
No age statement. Very smokey, not especially complex. Not as good as Laphroaig 10 or Lagavulin 16, but less than half the price. I've bought and drank many more bottles of Finlaggan than Laphroaig or Lagavulin.
I could not recommend buying this whisky. it offers no real distinctive character other than being quite nasty and is on the whole unpalatable. i found the taste medicinal, odd and not enjoyable at all. it also produced a really dirty headache. simply put; there are many fantastic single malt scotch whisky's and this is not one of them. it is dreadful.
