It's the very first release of Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish whiskey, produced by The Shed Distillery! Made with a combination of malted Irish barley, unmalted Irish barley and Irish Barra oats, this one is triple distilled and matured in a combo of Oloroso sherry casks and Kentucky bourbon casks. An impressive expression from the excellent distillers (their Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin is favourite among many), and it's said to be the first whiskey to come from Connaught in over 100 years.
Vanilla heavy, with grassy malt and honeyed porridge. A slow build of spiced fruit compote and chocolate mousse.
Christmas cake, buttered rye bread, red chilli flake, milk chocolate again and some flamed orange peel brightness.
Raisin, hazelnut spread, drying spices.
A nice whiskey, slightly on the expensive side for what it is.....If the price was slightly lower giving better bang for my buck I would have been much happier although I can imagine the expensive bottle and packaging add quite a bit to the price. Drumshanbo gin is amazing (well, so sayeth my wife) but in my opinion their whiskey is just not quite there yet.....Definitely better on the palate than on the nose but I just feel that the finish is too quick and lets it down slightly.
Long anticipated. Very creamy (probably from the Irish Oats) with a bit of delicious but subtle sherry. Think this will just keep getting better and better with each years release.
