The Sexton Single Malt

The creation of master blender Alex Thomas, The Sexton Single Malt Irish whiskey is made from 100% Irish malted barley, triple distilled in copper pot stills. After, the liquid is aged in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks imparting a rich and fruity character. It comes in a rather eye-catching hexagonal bottle, too.

Nose

Rich aromas of nuts, marzipan and dark chocolate with a pinch of spice.

Palate

Dried fruit followed by honeycomb sweetness, apricots, lemon zest, prunes and oak spice.

Finish

Woody on the finish, with honeyed sweetness coming through.

Solid Whiskey for $. Reminiscent of a Sherried Scotch.

Solid whiskey. REALLY impressed for the price. It is harsh straight and in need of additional aging and/or more malt and less grain. With one ice cube, smell and first sips take me back to a younger version the old NAS Dalmore Cigar Malt that hasn't be available since 2010 or so. And this would be a "light" version of that -- so maybe a blend of 2/3 NAS Dalmore Cigar Malt and 1/3 its contemporary Dalmore 12 yo that was a couple $ cheaper (or maybe even 1/3 unpeated Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair). Overall definitely more Dalmore than Bunnahabhain as there's some smoke. And both brands are relatively heavily sherried. Stars relative, for 5 years or younger whiskies at this price point... And admittedly, A LOT of nostalgia in this whiskey dating to a decade past.

Marzipan heaven

Wow, the marzipan nose is right there to begin. Not getting the fruits and the finish gas a rasp but certainly woody notes. Would I buy again…..no but still a decent Irish ?

Lovely drop.

What a surprise, bought this on offer and really enjoyed it. There’s a lovely after taste of chocolate which me and the other both half got. I’d happily buy this again.

Anyone who doesn't rate this "Irish" whiskey is clearly used to drinking "Scottish" whisky. This is an absolute gem ?.

Bog Standard

Bog standard Irish Whiskey, not a lot going on for me, expected more for the price. Nothing bad about it, nothing exciting either.
