Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Rock pools and toasted oak, followed by sponge cake and gingerbread.

Palate: Still coastal with a touch of flint, balanced by rum-soaked fruit and some floral barley notes.

Finish: Vanilla pods, milk chocolate and peppery malt.

Scalasaig Island Hopper Reviews

Great tasting blended malt for the price

The sherry influence is easy to see in the glass, a rich dark brown in colour. The whisky has a very deep nose, it's thick and heady. Treacle and butterscotch are the overwhelming smells, followed by a hint of peat smoke, and then a salt and pepper tingle, a little heat of chilli and sea spray. Makes your nose open up in good way like a strong whack of Vicks.
Feels thick in the mouth, very rich. The treacle mingles with that salty sea spray, along with a little dark chocolate. Salted confectionery dominates with a twinge of that smoke on top.
The finish is long for a 43% whisky. The sherry wood coats your mouth, alongside dried dark fruits and that umami salinity.
For the price, at around £50 a bottle, an absolute delight of a dram.

Still looking for a more satisfying dram two years on.

Can’t believe there’s still some available. Haven’t had another £50 dram that made me smile this much in ages. Wonderful.

My whisky of the year. It has everything, from brine peat and sherry to toffee bourbon notes.

Wow! What a sensational whisky! Not scratchily peaty in any way, but more a beautifully layered aroma of cereals, toffee, banana, and an integrated mellow oak smoke with flecks of Arbroath Smokies in there somewhere. Finish is full sweet and full of briney sherry notes and salted caramel. My whisky of the year, and a total bargain.
