The Oxford Artisan Distillery Rye Whisky - 2017 Harvest Batch 2
Rye whisky is rather popular these days, and with that, more and more distilleries are producing it outside of America – like Oxford, for example! The Oxford Artisan Distillery has a knack for using interesting grains, like the ancient heritage rye strains which feature in this expression alongside wheat and even some oats and thistles. This batch matured in a combination of virgin American oak casks and freshly-emptied Port casks.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Toffee pennies, almond and walnut, red liquorice, cooked orchard fruit, and familiar peppery heat.
Palate
Richly fruity with redcurrant and blackberry, though the earthiness of the rye still manages to sneak through. Honey and vanilla remains.
Finish
Spicy cardamom and cassia, with a touch of fried banana.
