Reviews for The Macallan 18 Year Old Sherry Oak (2023 Release)
Excellent, but price should be Illegal !
Can’t really limit the stars for the price-BUT £350 for a 43% 18 Year Old warrants the sellers wearing a mask and waving a flintlock pistol !

(OK I know the hair trigger Flintlocks were a John Smith of Glenlivet response to his contemporaries upset by his taking out a Distiller’s Licence)

I do appreciate the extra 3% ABV, and think the 12 YO could do with such a boost to justify the 90 Quid

A wee dram with character
A rich amber nectar with bold, strong flavours. Citrus, spice and dried fruit are dominant with some familiar notes of sherry. It's perhaps not as smooth as the 12 year old and maybe not to everyone's taste, but it's a whisky with character and complexity. It's great to sip and enjoy by a roaring log fire on a cold winters night!

Not my favourite
Maybe it’s me but I didn’t really like this whiskey. I found it quite overwhelming with the fruity and vanilla notes. Was not my favourite. Definitely would not buy again with its price point

One to take your time with
Fabulous whisky whisky for special occasions.
We tried this neat and found sherry sweetness, caramel, orange and spice on the nose. The palate was creamy and smooth with vanilla, dark chocolate, dried fruit and a note of peach. the finish we found was lingering with wood and cinnamon being the main flavours.

Strong and deep flavours.
I enjoyed this whisky on ice. It is very strong, with a deep flavour. I enjoyed the taste but thought the strength was too much to be able to taste the flavours enough. Might be better with a mixer. The quality of this whisky is noticeable, but it does come at a high price.

Not my favourite
Deep rich colour and heady aroma, drank over ice. Quite strong sherry flavour from the oak cask. Not my favourite, personally I found the Macallan Double Cask 12 year smoother and more enjoyable.

Prefer the 12 year old
We tried this with other aged Macallan whiskies, we tried it neat. A darker colour with a nice sherry aroma. The taste was nice and rich to start with some vanilla, dried fruit task but a harsher finish so perhaps next time a small amount of water with this one. Overall I think we preferred the 12 year old Macallan over this.

Not for me
I only occasionally drink whisky and probably won't try this one again. It was very harsh on the first sip, so much so that it was hard to experience any of the flavour.

Golden delicious
A splendid 18 year old malt, flavoursome, many undertones coming through from the first sip. I drink this with a chunk of ice, complements the peaty sensations on the palate. Very smooth finish. Recommended.

Expensive, but worth it
So, I got my hands on The Macallan 18 Year Old Whisky, and let me tell you, it's like sipping on a piece of liquid gold. The colour alone, this deep amber thing, already had me feeling fancy. When I caught that first whiff, it was like a sweet party in my nose with dried fruits, a bit of oak, and a touch of vanilla – classy, right? But the real magic happened when I took a sip. This whisky has been hanging out in barrels for 18 years, and you can taste every second of it.
