“This is what used to be called a "Vatted Malt", now a "Blended Malt", meaning it's blended from all single malts - no grain need apply. As with blended malts they are usually well balanced. In this case it's a wonderful blend of Islay malts with a nice level of smoke, sweet, salt, vanilla and chocolate and a butter that coats the mouth. This malt is worth the price.”

Description

The Lost Distillery Company create blended malts which are supposed to represent how whiskies from long-closed distilleries might have tasted, using research to find out as much about them as possible. Awesome. This particular expression is based on information regarding the Lossit distillery, which resided on the Isle of Islay from 1817 to 1867.

Nose

Damp oak, earthy peat and a hearty helping of milk chocolate.

Palate

Cigar box, buttered crumpets, sea salt light hints of basil.

Finish

Remains packed with vanilla and peat.
