The One Port Cask Finish Bottling Note

From the fabulous Lakes Distillery comes this blend, a marriage of The Lakes single malt as well as select grain and malt whiskies. The liquid has been finished for a whole year in first fill Tawny Port casks, sourced all the way from Portugal. It's bottled without chillfiltration or colouring, with that warm golden orange hue coming straight from the wonderful casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Rich and smoky, with honey, dried sour cherries, raisin and plum, with an oily nuttiness.

Palate Warming and spicy, with a crack of black pepper alongside nutmeg and cinnamon, with orange oil, roasted nuts and berries.

Finish Tangy sour cherry returns, with clove and a hint of pepper.

Reviews for The One Port Cask Finished
Better whisky out there for half the price.
The nose is lovely, sweet raisin and vanilla, almost toffee like. However the palette doesn't quite live up to the nose. A warm peppery and slightly honeyed taste quickly falls away to almost non existent finish.

Well balanced
My local distillery, but let me clarify I’m not much of a port finish fan, and when you pour this out and it’s almost a Rosé colour I took a deep breathe. Thankfully they have done a great job of balancing it. Nothing like their first limited release.

Nose has a very Christmassy theme. Stewed plums, baked oats. Palate is black currents, candied orange with some black pepper. The finish is drawn out but is fairly sour with more pepper.

Not bad for someone who doesn’t enjoy port so I can see the right person really enjoying this stuff!

Lovely stuff
A lovely dram, well-balanced with a slightly sweet taste profile from the Port Casks. Definitely recommended.
Exciting stuff from the Lakes Distillery!
