Hatozaki SB Pure Malt

From the Kaikyo Distilley comes Hatozaki Pure Malt, made with 100% malt whiskies, including stocks distilled in Japan as well as imported malt whiskies. This one features spirits drawn from a trio of casks - bourbon, sherry and Mizunara casks. It's named after the nearby Hatozaki lighthouse, which is the oldest stone lighthouse in Japan.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Aromas of dried fruit, sweet malt, a drizzle of honey, aromatic incense and sandalwood.

Palate Rich and complex with a good helping of malt, aromatic spices, dried fruit and toasted cereal notes, with a slightly creamy vanilla undertone.

Finish Delicately smoky and sweet honey on the finish, with lingering cigar box.

Reviews for Hatozaki Small Batch Pure Malt
If you want a Japanese whiskey look elswhere
Bah….thats the first impression. Strong, citrusy. Not my favorite. Compared to hibiki or nikka different cup of tea. If you like aushotoshan maybe…but nah..I will pass on this

Over-priced & very underwhelming. Horrible
Absolutely vile. Initial nosing aroma of overpowering alcohol, colour is very diluted & bland...no discernable notes at all. Have no idea how they arrived at their described finishing after taste unless they were chewing on a honey flavoured cigar during sampling

Absolutely mind blowing whisky!
Absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this. Although it is expensive, the price you pay is worth it. This is easily one of, if not the best, whiskys I have ever tried in the world and I have tried a lot. I first tried this in a restaurant tonight and immediately had to buy a bottle. From the first nose, to the taste, to the aftertaste, it is absolutely delicious and every sip makes you want more.

Huge disappointment. Will save for mixers only
Not good. Pale colour strong alcohol taste no discernable notes or finish. Not a patch on other japanese blends such as hibiki

Harsh like homemade poitin
Disappointing whisky, limited nose and a dry harsh flavour. The least impressive Japanese whisky I have tried.
The closest flavour I can compare this to was an Irish flatmates homemade poitin.

Strong and a little smoky
It is highly alcoholic, balanced and discreetly smoked. It's a bit nutty. Does not stand out

Read about it's complex dicey background but buy if you want a whiskey discussion.
The lack of color hides a complex nose. The tastes however is fair but dissapoints the plums we smell and gives way to a more harsh grain finish. But not bad.

Dry, light and sweet.
Something different.
The nose is interesting, sweet and aromatic.
Dry, light and sweet on the palate.
A lingering finish with, I’d say, traces of very delicate ashiness rather than smokiness.
A very nice offering.

Pale, smooth, honey textured
Doesn’t need water, delightfully smooth, honey textured, no harshness. My first Japanese and a real delight.
