Single Malt
The latest addition to the excellent Nàdurra range of natural cask strength, non chill-filtered whiskies is 'First Fill Selection', a sweet, vanilla-rich virgin American white oak matured version from The Glenlivet.

Frosted Shreddies, coconut crème brulee and vanilla infused sugar. Sultanas moving into marmalade, a hint of blackcurrant. Baked apple slices in custard. With water it opens further with gummy bears, pear drops and a hint of fern, a subtle floral soapiness and some buttery toffee. Mr Whippy's ice cream oysters too.
After a second, oomph! Powerful and sweet toasty oak. Rhubarb and custard boiled sweets on the second sip. Water reveals foam bananas and a hint of bubblegum.
Slightly smoky oak and almond goodness, with water revealing some citrus that, whilst I don't like to quote official tasting notes, is indeed "refreshing".
Quite a bit sweeter, with more vanilla and less of the warming wood spice found in the ex-bourbon cask 16 year old, both of which are to be expected. It's very good, naturally (or nàdurrally... nàdurra also means natural... there's a joke in there somewhere).
The closet whisky you’ll get to grappa, feisty and overpowering bubble gum, don’t waste your money
A classic bourbon oak on the nose; vanilla and pear. The pear especially, almost like pear cider on the nose. Also candy, like fruit toffee and caramel mixed with barley sugar. Feels a bit young on the palate, the alcohol hasn't had time to calm down. Not very complex this one - bourbon oak, vanilla, pear, hint of fruit candy. But that doesn't mean it's not tasty. The finish is short.
This is wonderfully clean and fragrant. If you are not a lover of iodine or peat smoke, and if you have tired of whisky that emulates bourbon or brandy, and just want pure fresh flavours - then this is the one. It needs a drop or two of water to open it out.
First time I tasted this Nadurra was during a Whisky festival. I was really surprised. I had the old Nadurra from back in 2009 or so. This one is totally different. Really warming and sweet. Taste of banana or pear linger in this whisky. I would recommend it!
My first 'first fill' whisky and from the first sip you can tell it means serious business. There is a citrus taste coming through with the high ABV and a big waft of chocolate on the nose. The finish packs an astringent punch of orange and an subtle hint of pear drops right at the end. The high ABV does not dominate and this has a decent length finish. A little water will help it along but it is fine to drink unadulterated. Highly recommended.
