This excellent 18 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Glenlivet is a classic Speyside dram, matured in a combination of first and second fill American oak and sherry casks. It also won two golds at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Quite big and well-rounded. There are notes of chewy sultanas and Sherried peels, barley sugars and toasty cereals with petals and apple blossom. A touch of fudge and gentle wisps of smoke.
Full and rich with notes of chewy, tannic oak. Manuka honey and walnut with Cox’s apples and orange peels. Cut herbs - fennel and spearmint.
Long and dry with a spicy oak note.

I have found over several tastings that the 12 & 15 yr. expressions are more complex with fruit flavors than the 18. I find the 18 flat or one-dimensional. Age isn't everything. A disappointing dram.
I find that age isn't everything. Actually I find the 12 & 15 yr expressions more complex with fruit flavors. I find the 18 yr boring, perhaps flat.
Its a nice mix of flavors. Quite a bit better that the 12 and 15. Soft honey, vanilla and a fruit that I haven't completely identified…something with a citrus taste.
Nice and viscous, as a lover of young islay I did not expect to like this as much as I do. Surprisingly excellent.
This is a fantastic whisky. Very smooth and mellow with a light smokiness. Lingers on the palette beautifully.
