Glasgow 1770 Original Bottling Note

Here we have 1770 Original Glasgow single malt, distilled at none other than the Glasgow distillery, which brought whisky production back to the city for the first time in over 100 years! It's handcrafted in copper pot stills (named Tara and Mhairi), combining Scottish barley with the pure water of Loch Katrine. The limited edition whisky was then matured in first fill bourbon casks, and treated to a finish in virgin white oak.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Dried dark fruits with tropical undertones on the nose, followed by hints of biscuit, oak and cut grass freshness.

Palate Butterscotch and burnt brown sugar sweetness, savoury cardamom, oodles of dried fruits, with marzipan, a good helping of honey and buttery shortbread.

Finish Rich and thick orange marmalade, nutmeg, a prominent woodiness and a hint of spice.

Reviews for Glasgow 1770 - The Original
overall, promising.
young and punchy this.. lots of oak, with dried fruits, and i think, mango. even with a half teaspoon of o2 it is still quite oaky. maybe been some european oak in there, but its quite refreshing. pepper stays all way through finish and remains on tongue.
mouthfeel is good, and a little more age and this could be even better.
perhaps a little expensive for a 50cl bottle, which i might add is quite attractive, although the cork had started to leach brown colour to bottle neck and had bits missing.(not so good)

Unusual flavour entices the curious.
It tastes more like whisky than any thing else, but it doesn't really tase of whisky. A fresh, odd but familiar organic tone dominates the flavour and lingers on the tongue. It leaves the drinker wanting more to satisfy their curiosity. A definite talking point when drinking with friends.

An unexpected triumph
Surprisingly exceptionally good considering the age of this dram (not that they had an age on the bottle) - first tasted this on a distillery virtual tasting and soon picked up a bottle after

A fine dram
Unexpectedly complex given its presumably young age, very enjoyable and recommended

Fine young dram
Can’t be too old, nevertheless honestly surprised by the quality and fullness of this dram coming from a distillery that only just put Glasgow back on the whisky map in 2014. Showing plenty of potential for the future as well …

Great whisky; not for codgers
Absolute cracker of a drop. Oily, fruity, perfectly balanced with a woody spice that only comes from top notch casks. Fans of older whisky in heavily used casks will find this a little lively for them, but anyone with a pulse will fall in love.

tastes like a 3 year old
quite rough, but that is to be expected of a 3 year old. maybe better wood and a longer time in cask this will be something worth getting.

Superb achievement
Superb dram for a new single malt distillery in Glasgow. Incredibly complex given the apparent age and the fact it’s a debut whisky release. Congrats to the ladies and gents at Glasgow Distillery. 5 stars.
