The English - Cask 001 is an extremely rare English single malt, released to commemorate the English Distillery's founding. In 2006, this whisky was the first of only 29 casks hand-filled by founder James Nelstrop. Not only is it whisky from the inaugural production, but it also marks the first cask produced by a licensed whisky distillery in England in over a century.
Over the last 18 years, this whisky has remained at the distillery, being disturbed just twice, once to be transferred into a single sherry cask and a second time when it was returned to its original American standard barrel. The release is unpeated, and bottled at cask strength (54.2% ABV), non-chill filtered, with no added colour. Just 60 bottles exist, each presented in an exclusive collector's box with a certificate of authenticity.
Wonderful aromas of vanilla, caramelised sugar, with hints of sandalwood and ginger.
Sipped neat, the palate gives oodles of caramel and stewed apples; a dash of water brings out more fruit and vanilla custard.
A long, full-bodied finish with a linger of brown sugar and slight dry wood spice.
