From Macduff distillery, this is a single malt you may know as Glen Deveron, but a new range of expressions and new packaging in September 2015 also saw a change of name to The Deveron. This is the 12 year old.
Sweet baking spice, toffee apples and ginger.
A core of butterscotch with waxy malt and apple pie.
Wood spice, vanilla and soft oakiness.
A new-look core expression for a single malt that's rightly getting more attention.
Deveron is about as much highland as my little toe. Who do you think you are fooling ...glen Deveron indeed!
Interesting comments here... I find with my bottle I'm getting quite a lot of spice and alcohol burn rather than fruit and sweetness oft mentioned here. I liken it to a liquorice taste, which is not really to my liking... however it could just be my tastebuds lately so I'll probably shelve this for a while and try some others in the meantime before I return. No final judgments yet for sure.
I agree with other reviewers that this needs no water or ice, its very palatable. Vanilla, caramel, oak and spice. Drank this with a friend and the bottle seemed to disappear. I will definitely track more down. Not an overly complex malt but very moreish. Slainte.
Okay okay maybe Glenfiddich 12 is drinkable like water. But this one is simply delicious and reminds me of caramel apples, fresh from the orchard apples that is. It has a bit of vanilla and honey, but mostly apple taste. It is sweet but not sugary sweet like dark fruits, its is much more I guess I would say ginger, although there's another taste that I can't put my finger on. But this is the OPPOSITE of an Islay, however I still love it. Such a great pick up.
This is absolutely stunning. Yes butterscotch, yes vanilla. This will be gone quickly :(
