You can always trust That Boutique-y Whisky Company to bottle up some brilliant whisky – the indie bottler has been at it for over a decade, releasing some truly superb single casks, small batches, limited editions. This Canadian corn whisky is no exception, except for the "limited edition" bit, because this one forms part of the Boutique-y Whisky core range... all in proper, grown up, 700ml bottles!
Matured for eight years, entirely in oloroso casks, it's packed with layers of sherried fruit, toffee ice cream, toasted almonds, and popcorn.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels (in this case, it's a Boutique-y deer... NO IT's A MOOSE this time! Ah. Canada. We get it.)
Buttery layers of raisin studded fudge and blueberry muffins, mellow oak and honeyed dates, plus some candied pecans in the distance.
A medley of cooked fruit, vanilla wafer, and toffee ripple ice cream, with almond butter, popcorn, and stewed apricot.
Butterscotch and charred oak are joined by a touch of peppercorn warmth for the finish.
I loved this - a big fan of bourbon so this went down really well. Nice and sweet and the maple flavours were great. Will be buying more!
Never given Canadian whisky any time, but this has won me over. Best new whisky discovery this year, for sure. Absolute session whisky
Yep, another triumph. These guys appear to know what they’re doing. This is smooth, sweet, full of autumn tastes from North America, with a lovely sherry finish and deep cherry colour. If I was that way inclined, this would be the perfect breakfast whiskey.
Took a punt, chuffed with my decision. Drinks better than bourbons £10 more expensive. Love it! And thank you for doing 70cl, Boutique-y!
