It says "Blended Malt" on this bottle, and technically that's exactly what it is, except 99.99% is from a single famous Speyside distillery! Welcome to the world of 'spooned' or 'teaspooned' malts, with That Boutique-y Whisky Company's second whisky of this type (their Blended Malt #1 is also spooned). It may not carry the name of a single distillery and may not say single malt anywhere on the label, but because of that it's also rather good value (with nobody able to taste the difference). You could say that the spoon rocks!
Batch 1 is a release of 270 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Round and inviting. Malted Milk biscuits, marmalade, oak, touches of clove and grape.
Golden sultanas and golden syrup with sandalwood and hints of cigar box.
More Malted Milks and lasting candied orange.
We got this in the Boutique-y Whiskey Company's advent calendar for 2017. It definitely needs time to open up and it's not quite as flavorful as some 19 yo scotches but it seems like it would be for people who like a lighter Speyside scotch like a Glenrothes or a Macallan. I actually think that this is a little lighter and less complex than the Macallan 18, though. I can see that some people would really like this as those distilleries have giant followings.
