The Dimension Collection from Duncan Taylor often throws up some outstanding whiskies and this 28-year-old Teaninich is a good example. This non-chill filtered single malt offers a superb, concentrated palate and really is thoroughly enjoyable.
Yes, I got the smokiness off the nose right away. Surprised me a little. I thought more of a peaty smoke than coal. A lot of tannins---should I have expected that? But still very smooth and rich, and even, yes, sweet, on the tongue when the initial zest ones begins to yield. Absolutely long finish. Yes, very nice experience.
I wrote this review before reading the tasting notes, and was quite pleased to notes that my bizarre references to coal and Swansea maritime museum were mentioned above!! Quite a light aroma, slightly grassy, slight smoke. Taste reminds me of Swansea Maritime Museum (bizarrely!) with an almost coal-like smoke, not very woody, despite its age, tastes of old filing cabinets and musty offices, but in a good way! A narrow, but fully packed taste... Very nice indeed!
