From the award winning Sullivan's Cove range comes a splendid single malt Tasmanian whisky, matured in the two styles of cask which the distillery makes great use of - American bourbon casks and French oak casks.
Sweet, spicy nose full of dried fruits: dates, figs, sultanas... This is an enticing, inviting whisky with plenty of creamy vanilla coming through form those bourbon barrels. Winter spice adds depth, and melds beautifully with notes of dried orange and rich honey.
Gentle palate entry which builds into a crescendo of dried spices, honey and fruitcake. There’s toasted, buttered fruit loaf, plums, hints of brandy and Chai Tea.
Long, spicy, mouth-filling finish. It fades away on cooked fruit and oak...
So much complexity that belies its low alcoholic strength – this is a fabulous whisky.
I was lucky to buy 4 bottles of this batch in 2016 when it was released. 3 as an investment for my 3 children. 1 for myself to try. I have to say it was and still is the easiest smoothest whisky I have even drank.
I had two bottles of Double Cask. A DC068 2016 release and another Dc111 2021 release. The earlier is superb and I'm very impressed. DC111 is so different to the first and no longer that good and I'm very disappointed
There is way to much variation with batches of this one. Some brilliant and some mediocre at best. Questionable batches are DC091, DC089. Top of the range DC087, DC077..... have a wild stab at anything else out there!
Light bodied but full of character.
I was fortunate enough to help a friend finish of his bottle of this outstanding whiskey a few weeks ago. The tasting notes by MoM say it all. It just went down so well - wow.
