Here is the very first indie bottling of Tamnavulin single malt Scotch whisky from That Boutique-y Whisky Company! The label of this 25 year old expression features all manner of rhyming gubbins, like a bear on a chair, a frog on a dog on a log and a shrimp in a blimp. Might this have something to do with Tamnavulin meaning "Mill on the hill" in Gaelic...? Maybe...
Batch 1 is a release of 68 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Refined and focused, the nose centres around stewed apples, with notes of wood polish and rich cinnamon in support. Through a little oak char there’s peaches in syrup. An element of rancio is present, adding superb depth.
Spicy oak tannins crackle through sharper waxy apples and more rancio. Yellow plums and bramble berries provide a complex fruity underlay, among a little golden barley and ginger biscuits. A suggestion of chocolate caramels, truffle oil and pipe tobacco leaves linger.
Soft and lingering, the finish is almost hoppy after a while.
A focused, deep and intensely beautiful dram. Sheer class.
