Nose: Refined and focused, the nose centres around stewed apples, with notes of wood polish and rich cinnamon in support. Through a little oak char there’s peaches in syrup. An element of rancio is present, adding superb depth.
Palate: Spicy oak tannins crackle through sharper waxy apples and more rancio. Yellow plums and bramble berries provide a complex fruity underlay, among a little golden barley and ginger biscuits. A suggestion of chocolate caramels, truffle oil and pipe tobacco leaves linger.
Finish: Soft and lingering, the finish is almost hoppy after a while.
Overall: A focused, deep and intensely beautiful dram. Sheer class.
