Tamnavulin Double Cask was the first release from the distillery since the 1990s! Over the past 20 or so years, the distillery changed hands from Invergordon Distillers to Whyte & MacKay, closed a few years later and reopened in 2007. Much of its single malt output is used in blends, but a few casks of single malt would sneak out as indie bottlings to allow us a rare taste of Tamnavulin - but now they've got their very own expression! They initially mature the whisky in American oak barrels before treating it to a finishing period in sherry casks.
Chocolate mousse, extra thick double cream with a dusting of brown sugar, stewed apples and blackberries.
Christmas pudding, chocolate brownies, yellow plum and toffee-coated barley.
Spiced rum sweetness lingers on the finish.

This is my favourite whiskey. Tried quite a lot, and this one is so nice, it makes it the only one I drink neat. I am no expert, I just know if I like a whiskey or if I dont. And this one is a stunner. Too nice to drink with mixers.
A good whiskey at a low price. Inside bottle two.
exerlent taste especialy with adrop ofwater or one ice cubecan recomend to all my friends
Disappointed. The price is great, but I'd rather spend more on something else. I love a sherry-cask, but the combination of the oak and sherry here clashes somehow for me, and it's just very young. The nose has a few sherry notes, dates, sweetness, but all very vague and nothing to linger over. The flavour is...odd. I can't escape the slight taste of shaoxing wine or haw flakes...a kind of Chinese medicinal taste in the background. It's not an unpleasant taste, but I don't want it in my whisky. And unlike one of the other reviewers here, I found the aftertaste spicy enough but too short. I do find it an interesting dram, in the sense that it changes so much from nose to finish, but all of it is rather subtle, and not enough to be really satisfying. That said, again, it's cheap so you won't have lost much in the trying.
My first single mallt, after getting bewitched by the Macallan Gold 50ml sample in Sainsburys I spent some time review hunting and finally tracked this down in my local Spanish supermarket. Easy to drink, fairly smooth, and mellow. Reminds me a bit of Jack Daniels,(the only other whisky I liked) but without the heavy smoke. On my second bottle now. Can’t wait for my first Glendronan. Christmas is coming.
