A rather special single malt here from Tamnavulin, this one spent a whole four decades maturing in a pair of bourbon barrels! Once it reached 40 years of age, it was independently bottled by The Single Malts of Scotland for the Director's Special series. It's as creamy, fruity and marvellous as you'd expect.
Honeysuckle and gingerbread biscuits complement soft baked apples and pears. Toasted vanilla pods with dried fruit and a background eucalyptus note give a hint of the whisky's age. Light notes of waxed and polished oak are balanced by pine-needle spiciness.
Brown sugar leads, with walnuts, hazelnuts and a thick, rounded mouthfeel. Rich milk chocolate and soft Victoria sponge follow, with poached pears and vanilla ice cream. At the end, mint leaves dusted with icing sugar come through, with a hint of spice leaving you wanting more.
Gracefully fading away, with a rich orange and spicy cumin.
