A gentle 12 year old Speyside single malt from the Tamnavulin distillery, drawing its waters from the River Livet.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is quite soft with a proliferation of cereals and barley. Notes of malt extract with a juicy sweetness, a herbal note develops with cut spearmint leaves. The palate is quite light and very well-balanced. There are notes of soft herbs and eucalyptus oil with barley sugars. The finish is quite quick but with a herbal quality with a touch of bitterness.

Pleasant wee dram

Found a miniature in a deceased relatives house and had it tonight. Very smooth and mellow, I enjoyed it and wish the bottle had been a full one!

My first single malt

At my first time with single malts was in a Cigar Bar in Saratoga NY, 1999? we received a menu of all the Scotches available. It was about 5 pages of scotches. Me, I had no idea. So the bartender recommended Tamnavulin. I had heard that scotch has a wicked peety taste so I was a little worried, but took the advice. It was so smooth. I had another. The 2nd was better than the 1st. Wow, I need to buy this. And I did. Or so I thought I did. I we to a liquor store and looked for it. By that time, I could only remember "something"-vulin. I bought Lagavulin. YUCK! This isn't what I remember, except for the "peety' part that people scared me of . With some online searching, I realized that the name was Tamnavulin. About a year later, found a store that sold it. AWESOME!. But they ran out. Ordered one online until the online business ran out. Changed to Balvenie. All types they made. I liked it ALOT, but missed Tamnavulin, especially with the price increase of Balvenie. But acquired a taste for Balvenie. But I was paying 3 - 5 times more. I can't wait to enjoy Tamnavulin (12), again.

Its coming back

I know someone who lives 500 metres from the distillery and they have said they are 9 years into maturation; therefore 3 years away from sellng a Tamnavoulin branded 12 year old malt again!

We're afraid so. The distillery was closed between 1995 and 2007 so the stock simply isn't there unfortunately! The vast majority of their output is also destined for blends, of course. - The Chaps at Master of Malt
