It's the 2007 vintage Distillers Edition from Talisker. These expressions are allowed a finishing period in casks that previously held Amoroso sherry, which plays wonderfully with the distinctive coastal salinity of Talisker's single malt. This one was bottled in 2017 at 45.8% ABV.
Toffee, seaweed, a sharp hint of fresh citrus fruit, milky coffee.
Juicy pineapple and apple, balanced by a kick of sea spray. Some light vegetal hints of fresh thyme and basil.
Lingering smoke and dried fruit.
Fiery medicinal taste, not overly complex but more like Laphroaig - bit of a cougher & a slap in the face like a wet fish. Compared to Bruichladdich Organic, which is so complex with tons of flavour - we’re very disappointed ?
Can you call a whisky “fun”? Like how this one starts out on the fruit side (sherry influence?) and finishes with an expected smoke signal that this label is known for. First Talisker for shelf and not the last.
Rich, smoky, and briney! It coats the mouth and throat and has a long finish. You get the classic black pepper, clove, and allspice notes you’d expect from Talisker, but now they’re accompanied by citrus fruits! Lots of orange and something reminiscent of grapefruit. There’s still enough salty brine and peat smoke to remind you that you’re drinking a Talisker though. Excellent stuff!
This is my first Talisker and i like it very much. Very fruity and delicate the first second, then comes the spicy notes and something salty in the mouth. Finally a quiet strong and dry finish. Considering the price of 50€ i paid, a great whisky for the money. Also very different from Laphroaig and Lagavulin, which give you that nice feeling you have tried something new.
Should have bought more than 1 bottle... Aged well, down to the last 3rd... A nice smokey finish with a linger of fruit and toffee. A milky sort of aroma creeps up on you with a hint of that seaweed in the air. Definitely an after dinner sipper~
