Suntory Toki Bottling Note

A blended whisky from Suntory's three distilleries: Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. Toki has a different composition to another Suntory blend, Hibiki, as its main components are Hakashu single malt and Chita grain whisky. It should work really well in a highball.

Fun fact: 'Toki' means 'time' in Japanese.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Soft orchard fruits and thyme honey are joined by a helping of peppermint in the backdrop.

Palate: More green apple on the palate leads along bright citrus notes from pink grapefruit. Bitter herbs, toasted almonds and vanilla oak linger underneath.

Finish: White pepper and ginger add spice to the finish.

Suntory Toki Reviews

*A good summer whisky*

I was gifted this and was my first Japanese whisky. I was mildly surprised how good this is, as it's fresh, fruity sweet, fruity citrus but all with a spicy/peppery taste in the finish. I've not mixed this with anything like other have, but IHMO it's a good value summer whisky.

A nice surprise

I bought a bottle of Santory TOKI on the advice of a friend. I do like whisky but don't consider myself anything other than a novice when it comes to getting multiple tastes and smells from it. Usually I'm a rum drinker.
Anyway, I picked up a bottle of Toki and had my first drink of it along with my friend. As soon as it was poured I sniffed it and could clearly smell fruit, in particular sharp apples. I could also pick out honey and a herby smell but I couldn't pinpoint which one.
Upon tasting it I thought it was very subtle, but I could taste apple and some citrus notes. There were other flavours that I could't identify.
One thing I do know is that I love it. It has opened up the world of whisky to me. Toki is very much worth a try and for the money you can't go wrong.

A really nice whisky

A wonderful whisky worth every penny; didn't last long on my drinks cabinet.

Good beginner Japanese whiskey, not something I would always have in my home bar

Great value. Paid $30. Surprisingly easy going sipper but also great as a highball with club soda. Fruity, crisp green apples, candy sweet, vanilla, honey. I don't get the smoke and bitter herbs others have mentioned. I get a nice subtle candied honey , fruit, and a hint of mint or peppermint in the background. Not as good as pot still Irish , blended scotch, or bourbon for my palate, but a decent dram.

I really got an aftertaste of bitter herbs, I’m not complaining mind, it’s okay but nothing to shout about.

Brilliant simply Brilliant

I don't understand how this is on sale for this price, it is sublime tasting, and certainly the best blended whiskey I have had, this is a must, very easy to drink, not heavy but light and refreshing with a good spicy after taste that is not overpowering. well done to Suntory for this at that price..

Worth re-visiting.

Further to my previous comments (10th September); this whisky improved considerably after several weeks of oxidisation. On first acquaintance I disliked it so much I put the opened bottle back in the cupboard.
Upon trying again I find the astringency has diminished and a faint honey sweetness seems to have developed. Still not sure I would buy it again, but I now consider it worth another star.

Not to my taste.

I didn’t care very much for this and thought it was rather unpleasant. It feels very thin and astringent in the mouth. Not at all succulent. I thought the little bit of taste that it did have was vaguely reminiscent of farm made Calvados and very slightly of marzipan (which I dislike).
I shan’t be buying it again.

Nice and smooth

It is a nice siping whiskey. I find it to be smooth and with a nice after.
