Reviews for Strathmill 12 Year Old - Flora and Fauna
Not bad.
Tuath glass showing russet muscat. The nose shows moderately intense notes of toffee, light caramel, and hints of mint/vanilla. The palate is shows a nutty forwardness with subtle hints of smoke and peat. Finish is gentle with light notes of toffee and umami.
After 2 drops of water - the nose shows more pronounced notes of vanilla and light mint. The palate is gentler with more notes of vanilla throughout. Finish is still the same.

Not as good as expected
I had wanted to add a Strathmill to my collection for some time and this F&F 12 yo bottling seemed an ideal choice. various whisky writers had extolled its virtues, highlighting the orange honeycomb sweetness, a hint of mint and the delicate floral nose. This sounded intriguingly different, so the purchase was made. However, I have to say that it was a bit of a disappointment in that it tasted much the same as the many, many other Speysides I have. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy this dram - it is a good whisky - it's just not as different as I wanted it to be, which is maybe my problem.

Surpisingly Interesting
I have come to expect good solid drams from the whole of the Flora and Fauna line, but the Strathmill offering is unique. The nose is pretty much spot on, as listed by the Masters of Malt guys, but they neglect to mention the dense, creamy mouth feel and the finish is is lingering with the pepper and herbs. For an inexpensive 12 year old this is an absolute beast of a dram! If you are a fan of Glenfiddich that wants a more engaging feel to your whisky, this is a must have.

Cream and oil.
Like a glenfiddich with cream, add a little water and it becomes even more creamy and oily texture. Very nice.
