Something rather exciting here, the inaugural release of Douglas Laing's Strathearn Single Malt marks the legendary independent bottler's graduation into the realm of distilling!
Douglas Laing acquired the Perthshire-based Strathearn distillery in 2019 and with a small team, set to work on re-launching the brand, and the creation of this, its first single malt. The whisky was drawn from a selection of 32 bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak casks, combining older spirit inherited with the acquisition of the distillery, and a portion of younger spirit distilled under the new ownership, overseen by lead distiller Angela Brown. Boasting a satisfying ABV of 50%, and housed in a handsome acorn-shaped bottle, this release declares the house style that Douglas Laing aims to produce at Strathearn, and it's an exciting sign of what's to come from the rejuvenated Highland distillery.
I am really very impressed by this single malt. Didn’t know quite what to expect but it’s beautiful and complex and really very enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Like the previous reviewer, I’m also impressed by this first release of Strathearn. It’s a really nicely balanced dram with heaps of complexity and quality but also easily drinkable - very easily!
I am so impressed by this one. I thought it would be good but blown away by the depth of quality, flavour and complexity. Bravo Strathern - bravo.
