Exceedingly sought-after single malt here! This is the annual 12 Year Old Cask Strength release from Campbeltown-based Springbank distillery. This edition was drawn from a selection of 70% bourbon and 30% sherry casks and bottled at a hearty 57.2% ABV.
This year’s 12-year-old cask strength kicks off with notes of marzipan, smoked meats, and a smokiness akin to burnt matches.
The smoky, earthy note continues on the palate and a nuttiness is introduced in notes of pistachios. Notes of caramelised brown sugar, prunes and custard round out this dram.
A sea salt note emerges in the finish along with notes of red apple skin.
