Hazelburn 10 Year Old Bottling Note

Part of the Hazelburn core range, this is a 10 year old bottling of Hazelburn single malt Scotch whisky from the Springbank distillery in the Campbeltown region. It is triple distilled, matured in bourbon casks and bottled at 46% ABV.

Hazelburn is one of three styles of whisky produced at Springbank, known for being triple distilled and unpeated, whereas Springbank single malt is distilled two-and-a-half times and is lightly peated, and Longrow single malt is twice distilled and heavily peated.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Toffee apples, fresh honey and fragrant pears. Hints of vanilla.

Palate: Good mouthfeel paired with bright notes of vanilla and Crunchie bars. More lively fruit notes underneath.

Finish: Oily and sweet on the finish.

Overall: Early evening dramming, this one. Relaxed and flavoursome.

Hazelburn 10 Year Old Reviews

Top-notch dram!

At this very moment I am enjoying my second dram of this rather remarkable whisky (stopping after one would be out of the question!). Instantly intriguing on the nose and palate, then keeps delivering more with each subsequent visit to the glass. So much more to this than simply Springbank without the peat. Highly recommended!

top whisky from a great distillery

nice oily mouthfeel; plenty of vanilla and honey, plus a fair bit of spice. a sp-lash of water opens it up more and is advised by me. top whisky from a great distillery.

Buy it while you can

Amazing, in a few years this will be far more expensive

If u know u know

Still find it hard to believe that people pay double the price of this whisky for inferior products with colouring added chill filtered and 40% vol, when this beauty is available. Everything whisky should be. Buy it if you want good whisky, if not leave it for those who know. Well done yet again Springbank.

Cambridge Whisky Nut says (on the 2019 bottling):

A monster of an expression of proper Campbeltown/West Highland malt. Don't make the mistake thinking it's Irish style or Auchentoshan like because it is triple distilled. It's a fat, oily spirit carrying loads and loads of flavour! This is a masterful malt which achieves being dry, rich, and savoury at the same time thanks to showcasing the expert use of casks to allow the spirit to shine through. On the nose a wonderful aroma of paraffin and dry toffee with the slightest hint of trademark Springbank fruit. The taste is big - BIG - with lovely briny/salt notes to accompany the richness of the malty/toffee/slight fruit notes. Now tried 3 different bottlings of Hazelburn 10, and keeps getting better year to year. A must for any proper whisky aficionado!

I offered this at a tasting last night, as I am a big fan of Campbeltown whisky and loved the description of this whisky onnthe MOM site. It was nothing at all as described.

My first impression was “This is a whisky a man would really enjoy!” (I am a female SMSW lover)
due to the serious, meatiness of it. The flavors were perplexing at first, and on the nose I got leather, hazelnuts and beef bouillon. The palate proved even more confusing as I tasted roast beef sandwich. The finish was medium-long and very smooth. A few drops of water brought out the flavors, but no new flavors were evident.
It was a decent whisky, but not my cup o’ tea.

Another gem from Springbank distillery

This whisky ,like everything from Springbank, is spectacular. I have had a hard time getting a bottle of this where I live , it is usually very overpriced and quite scarce but thankfully my local shop got some and sells it reasonably cheap. Definitely the light end of the peat spectrum for this distillery but there's just no way around that leathery, briny , Campbeltown smoke character. It actually reminds me of a less peaty, smoother version of the Springbank 10 year its more focused on the vanilla and fruit notes with that trademark Campbeltown character. Really excellent stuff hope it becomes more available. Cheers! The Sugarbear

all in one

Delicated and a quality whisky, full of flavour, without lacks, malt and peat(slighty effervescent and chewy). The best whisky I have tasted, best than many other older expressions, characteristic flavour from springbank (without smoke).
Well done, natural colour, 10yo, non-chill filtered, triple distilled, malt dried by warm air. Will join Glengoyne 12 in my list of favourites single malts, both pure in style and great whiskys. It doesn't need to be old to be very good. Note, all of this with only 10 years in bourbon cask. Well done Springbank go on!

Great treat

Sweet and oily with a bit of fruit well balanced a great treat to sample

Very good indeed. But, why peat?

With this one, as happened with the 12 yo I felt peat. I'm wrong? If I'm correct and this whisky is unpeated, how I get that flavour? Or we are talking about a similar flavor but not necessarly peat? I'm confuse now, I admit. But, apart of this, I found it sophisticated and clean with the right amount and well integrated peat (In the 12yo that flavour is more pronounced). Very good indeed.
Apart from being a quality single malt, it's also tripel distilled, natural colour, unchillfiltered, and malt dryed with warm air (and what about the peat flavour I feel, anybody can explain? Thanks in advance)

Can't wait to try Killkeren if it's half as good it will be great.

Bought my first bottle of this in Calgary Alberta and Leigh my host in Calgary agreed with me that this is one of the finest malts we have ever tasted.Springbank 10 is awesome Longrow is lovely but this takes the crown of the Springbank produce. If you haven't tried it ,get it on it won't dissapoint you.It says upeated but I and my friends say definitely a whiff of smoke in the Finish.

Friday night dram... Toffee apples and vanilla a cracking easy drinker

Lovely light whisky. Goes down easily, and leaves the most subtle of smokey/peaty taste afterwards

Absolutely undrinkable!

My boyfriend and I drink lots of different whiskeys and awaited this one with the usual anticipation. But each had a sip and poured the rest of our glasses down the sink! Now out almost 40 quid and wondering what to do with it...

Stunning and amazing value for money

I have to admit I'm a huge fan of Springbank and when Hazelburn was announced a few years ago I was very eager to get a bottle and it didn't disappoint. It's good to see Hazelburn 10 established as part of the core range and not for it to be just a 'progressive' experiment. Im a big fan of the progressive distillers as well but i think this is a lesson to them (Bruichladdich in particular) that a core range is just as important as the interesting provenance and finish ranges that sit around them.. As for the whisky, stunning, lots going on a wonderful rich sweet nose, big mouthful of flavour and a long satisfying finish, Oak to the fore throughout. I cant think of anything that comes close for the money simple stunning.
