Springbank 21 Year Old has become something of a legend among whisky lovers and with good reason. It's a spectacular dram that offers unbelievable complexity.
There is a lot going on here; heather, plums and peach, quite dry but with hints of honey. There's a slight waxy note too with a little bit of leather.
Very soft, with caramelised fruit and raisins and cassis. The spices include cinnamon and vanilla and there's some oaky dryness to balance the honey. A subtle wood smoke and a hint of the sea.
Very long with hints of aniseed and raisin sweetness.
Wow. there's so much to take in... this is a whisky worth spending serious time with.

I first tried this over 25 years ago, and have been smitten ever since.
Can a whisky "get cork"? Because that's the foremost association I get from my bottle! If the whisky doesn't have that excuse, it is flat and boring. The nose is just wooden. The palate is uninspiring and evaporates quickly. The finish is awful. I can't wait to get something else. You can get drunk with this stuff if you have nothing else - and that desire. Otherwise, I am not impressed.
