The first ever single pot still Irish whiskey finished in Bordeaux casks! The choice of Bordeaux wine is also significant - Ch. Léoville Barton is not only a highly-regarded grand cru Château, but one that takes it's name from the Irish 'Wine Geese' winemaker Thomas Barton. In fact, Léoville Barton is still run by his descendants to this day. This bottling is a celebration of shared Irish heritage.
Matured initially in a mixture of ex-Oloroso Sherry, fresh American oak and ex-bourbon barrels, this Green Spot whiskey is then finished in the ex-Château Léoville Barton Bordeaux wine casks for 12 to 24 months.
Wild raspberry, a little pot pourri, crab apple, honey and gingerbread.
Toffee, green apple, lemon peel, vanilla, redcurrant and warming spice.
Long and quite dry with cereal and plenty more spiciness!
$34.52 - $96.59
Wonderful drop this. A little extra water does this no harm but so much flavour and richness with a smooth finish. Complexity is there too in this fine drop.

Whilst I'm no expert, I do know what I like! Always find it difficult here in England to track down Irish whiskies, other than the more common varieties, but on a recent stay in Belfast, I made a point of trying a few. The regular Green Spot, I found to be OK, but the Yellow Spot was really nice. Anyway, I decided to go somewhere inbetween for this purchase and went for this Chateau Leoville Barton, somewhat based on other customers reviews. I have to say that I'm defininately NOT disappointed!
I have now tried four different Spot whiskey's, like the others this one does not disappoint. To keep it basic, this is very smooth with rich caramel and vanilla flavours, my personal favourites.
Not sure what has happened to this. I had a bottle a few years ago and it was as expected: sweet cake spices, chalky yet creamy. It was one of my top whiskies. The most recent bottle (bought in 2021) seemed very young to me. Leaving it to sit for a while didn't make a significant difference, and adding water only improved it a little. I tried this whiskey at different times of the day, before and after meals and with friends - but to no avail. The apparent youth in the glass impacted the enjoyment of the whiskey. For the money, this is way too harsh.
