The first ever single pot still Irish whiskey finished in Bordeaux casks! The choice of Bordeaux wine is also significant - Ch. Léoville Barton is not only a highly-regarded grand cru Château, but one that takes its name from the Irish 'Wine Geese' winemaker Thomas Barton. In fact, Léoville Barton is still run by his descendants to this day. This bottling is a celebration of shared Irish heritage.
Matured initially in a mixture of oloroso sherry, fresh American oak and bourbon barrels, this Green Spot whiskey is then finished in the Château Léoville Barton Bordeaux wine casks for 12 to 24 months.
Wild raspberry, a little pot pourri, crab apple, honey and gingerbread.
Toffee, green apple, lemon peel, vanilla, redcurrant and warming spice.
Long and quite dry with cereal and plenty more spiciness!
I am a huge fan of Irish Whiskey. Midleton Was always my ultimate, but the escalation in price gives me pause . This is amazing stuff , grab it up at the duty free if you get a chance , an amazing value .
I was an unconditional single malt Scotch fan but since I went to Ireland and tried their triple distilled pot still whiskey, I changed my mind a bit. This green spot Château Léville Barton is very interesting to drink.
A nice Pot Still but the Wine Barrell finish adds a salty finish which makes me grab the Green Spot original more often. Not to be misunderstood as being a bad whiskey. It is a great expression and an experiment worth trying. A lot more dried fruit on the nose and taste and white pepper on the back end. A good whiskey, but not a great.
Tasted this at Jameson distillery in Midleton, Ireland (worth a visit). Really smooth, sweetish whiskey with nice fruity flavours. Bit different from what I'm used to, but the bottle seems to be going down quickly!
The smell in the glass is honey and sweet. I think the taste in the mouth is a warm smooth spice.sweet like bourbon, the bordeaux cask is evident.,in the throat it makes me relax and feel warm. I said in a recent review Green Spot is everything I want in a whiskey. This is even better. It like taking one Minogue sister to bed and finding the other one is already there warming it.
