The SPEY Tenné is a single malt from the Speyside Distillery, owned by Harvey's of Edinburgh. It is initially aged in bourbon casks before enjoying a 6 month finishing period in Tawny Port casks, giving a subtle ruby hue and vibrant, fruit-filled flavour profile.
What a beauty this is nice dram highly recommended. Will try the other bottles of single malt that they do.
I have to be honest and say that I initially bought this purely because of the nice bottle. Opening the bottle a year later i was rewarded with a very nice surprise. The nose is pleasant but a bit understated, malty bread along with syrupy dark fruits and a floral honey sweetness. The fist sip is is intensely flavourful. Malty bread, dark fruits, stewed apples and a floral honey sweetness. There is that distinct mineral sweetness you find in mountain spring water, as well as a slightly nutty quality. The port definitely has a large influence, impacting a rich full flavoured sweetness of dark fruits and berries. The finish is floral honey sweetness, musty malt, mineral water, a touch of oak vanilla tannins and something that reminded me of roasted hazelnuts. The mouthfeel is creamy and substantial. This will please the crowd, while being complex enough to entertain the malt aficionados, perhaps a good bottle for the family Christmas table. Since i bought it the price has fallen a bit, and i think at the price point its at now, it is a very good deal. If you like port and the Speyside flavours, or you just want a pleasant break from that golden tar they make on Islay, I can highly recommend this malt. Overall score : 91
As someone who grew up drinking the likes of Paddy Irish whiskey, I found this one to be quite nice after a while but just a tad harsh at first. Not a bad drop for the price but happy to try something else instead next.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this whisky. Initial taste after opening was unimpressive so I let the glass sit for awhile. As I thought it got better and better. Nice but not overwhelming port wine flavor. I enjoy that bit of sweetness. Nice legs, and mid length finish. Overall a very enjoyable whisky. And at the price it’s even better. I try not to compare dissimilar styles of whisky so take this for what it is, a very nice, honest whisky at a very reasonable price.
Unbalanced, harsh and young whisky with excessive port influence. I bought this based on positive reviews and was just disappointed. I didn't expect it to be this harsh and cheap tasting. The review on May 23rd 2020 and July 4th 2020 were accurate. The reviewer on May 15, 2021 is an insensitive fool. It was uncalled for to insult someone who has a different preference.
