Smokehead Sherry Bomb Bottling Note

Sherry and peat go toe to toe with Smokehead Sherry Bomb! It's a well-peated single malt from an undisclosed Islay distillery, matured in Oloroso sherry casks, boasting smoke and dried fruit by the truckload. It's a powerfully flavoursome dram, and unashamedly so.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Dark chocolate, seaweed, a hint of medicinal peat smoke, prunes and clove.

Palate: BBQ smoke, stem ginger, sherried peels, sea salt, rum-raisin ice cream.

Finish: Clove, red chilli flake, treacle.

Smokehead Sherry Bomb Reviews

Should have been bottled at cask strength

My impressions are based on whisky from a freshly-opened bottle. This tastes like a younger Islay matured in good ex-sherry casks - pretty much as advertised. It's peppery and fruity with a medium-long, drying finish. Adding water only dilutes the flavors, which makes me think this should have been bottled at cask strength. The nose has a faint coppery, astringent quality to it with a bit of bandaid aroma, but nothing objectionable for the peat lovers. Overall, it's pretty good but doesn't quite justify the price tag. I find Ardbeg Uigeadail to be marginally superior but at a much better price point.

Worth a try

Insane peat and smoke with twists of fire heat.

decent enough dram but you are paying a significant premium for the branding

I've tried 4 or 5 of the Smokeheads so far and they have all been good (certainly nothing you'd spit out or refuse) Problem is that in such a crowded market you seem to be paying at least £10 a bottle for the tin. It is a very nice tin but I'd rather my money went towards nicer whiskey than trendy branding :/ Basically unless it's a gift for a skull obsessed younger drinker with expensive tastes you can do better for the price

Too radical and extreme for me

Well it is definitely not whisky for everyone. It is like you’ve been shot from a machine gun. All tastes on palate changes so quickly and the super smoke doze covers everything at end. Not for me. Tnx
