Smokehead High Voltage

A high-ABV variation on the classic Smokehead Islay single malt, Smokehead High Voltage is described as an "all-out attack" on your senses by its producer. Which, y'know, sounds pretty intense. If you're a fan of heavily-peated whisky, this'll be right up your street.

Also, yes, it was incredibly hard to resist making an Electric Six reference when writing this bottling note.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Burnt biscuits, dried earth and a kick of black pepper.

Palate Oily barley and intense campfire smoke, with a hint of brown sugar underneath.

Finish Sea salt, oat cakes and smoked paprika.

Blerg!!!

My (non drinking) Husband brought this home, brought me a glass, I was expecting my usual and nearly spat out the first taste. Informed him it tasted like a lump of burnt peat had been left in the bottle, it was undrinkable, it tasted like a smoke damaged apartment smells after the fire brigade have hosed it down, and could he take it back to the shop?

He looked a bit shamefaced and said ‘probably not - I think it pretty much does what it says on the label’

True that. Still awful.

Not so sure
I do not really see what all the fuss is about. The overwhelming alcohol bite masks a lot of the initial notes and underwhelming smokeyness leaves my taste buds rather confused as to what is going on inside this bottle. Not for me. Not a terrible Whiskey by any means but, for the cost, you can definitly buy better alternatives!

Blown away by the (gun)smoke
Wow this is what I call bang for the buck!
I am suprised this whisky is only 650 sek, I would compare this with lagavulin cask strengths and octomore, maybe not really as good but no way this is only worth half the price!

Great complexity behind a massive smoke curtain
Great malt, in my opinion definitely Ardbeg. Massive amounts of peat overwhelm at first, butafter a few sips open up to a very surprising and nice complexity. At that is price a true gem.

If you like intense big peat, with just a touch of sherry to just take a bit of edge off
A welcome addition to the smokehead range - intense with a hint of sherry with all that lovely peat. Very more-ish - goes down very well, one more if you insist . Yes maybe a little engineered, not a perfect classic malt but a good cask strength peaty malt for a decent price
