Smokehead is a superb, cult single malt from Ian MacLeod. Just a massive, thick peat smoke rich dram. Plenty of great south Islay character.
Smoke! Lapsang souchong. Cool wood smoke. Thick and full.
Big, puckering peat. Smoky, fruity sweetness, touch of sherry, sultana. Herbal.
Herbal, tangy fruits and more peat smoke!
On the nose it is very herbal and sweet with some smoke in the background, on the pallet it's a mixture of peppery, herbal, somke, peat and sweetness. Basically the smoke clears and allows the other flavours through and covers them again. The website talks about plumb jam, and yes I kind of get that too. If you breathe, tge herbal taste nearly becomes mentholesque then a huge sweetness covers yoyr mouth like when you eat honey with wax. The aftertaste is very long, more herbal, smokey, peaty and sweet. Absolutely no TCP (I get that more from a Bowmore 12), not a huge complex of flavours which allows me to thoroughly enjoy them from nose to finish. I love it! Iechyd da!!
It was a present for my dad, a single malt aficionado! Here's his review: 'It is magnificent. Peaty, phenolic, proudly west coast. Brilliant.'
Absolutely beautiful. With a name like that, I was sceptical. But the flavour stunned me: the perfect balance of smoke and sweetness. It's my new number 1 (sorry, Lagavulin).
Absolute delight to drink. Full of flavour and smooth on the palette. You can easily forget how much your drinking! Must must.
This takes getting used to. I think it was my fourth glass (over four days) before I 'got' this. Once your taste buds are in synch it's excellent, but if that doesn't happen (as has happened to me with some whiskies) I imaging it will taste pretty horrible.
