Nose: Through heather smoke and creamy vanilla comes sweet spices, nutmeg mostly, in a mature sherry profile. Aromas redolent of iodine, damp grass, cola syrup and hickory linger in the backdrop against an earthen rootiness, with sea salted caramel and a dark nuttiness rising throughout.
Palate: A big, salty lick opens a palate that carries a concoction of stewed plums, blackberry compote and fresh apricot jam. More winter spices and woody tannins fizz away among deep, dark notes of mulch, horchata and vegetal oak. Huckleberry honey and a helping of peat smoke supplement each other in the backdrop.
Finish: The woody, earthy character lingers with cola syrup and burnt brown sugar in support.
Overall: A real smögasbord of flavour and personality. Utterly brilliant.
