Seaweed & Sherry Cask #02 Bottling Note

A superb single malt from the Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire range, but this time, there are a few more ampersands in the mix. Y'see, this edition features the same smoky 10 year old Islay whisky at its heart as the original expression, but instead of only 25% of it getting treated to a finish in sherry casks, the whole lot of it has been finished in them – hence "& Sherry Casks". It has also been bottled up at cask strength, with batch 2 weighing in at a robust 55.3% ABV – hence "& Cask Strength". Bonus ampersands, more sherried richness, a bolstered ABV. This whisky has it all and more!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Waves of vegetal peat arrive first, swiftly backed up by fruit cake and chocolate notes, plus a whisper of sea shell minerality.

Palate: Dried fruit moves to the fore on the palate, with dried cherry and chewy raisin. Still powerfully smoky. A flash of cinnamon and caraway appears later on.

Finish: Seville orange marmalade, smoky peanut shells, a smidge of charred oak, chocolatey mocha.

Overall: Brilliant bold and flavoursome, with a great juxtaposition between the sweet and peat.

Filthy, rich and unctuous.

This is a great dram. No marketing budget. A cheap ass bottle. A label that looks like it was done on a laser printer. No expensive, luxuriously finished packaging. It’s almost perfect. My hard earned pennies appear to be paying for what’s actually in the bottle and I think it shows. The liquid is a blisteringly full on assault on the senses. Big nose. Bigger mouth. Huge finish. AtomLabs need to keep doing this. Don’t milk the punter, treat them well and they will keep coming back. This is how you build reputations. 10/10

It grows on you.

This whisky needs time to open up. So much so that I left the bottle open overnight. It's a very unique dram and at a very reasonable price tag. People seem to think it's either Laphroaig or coal Ila just because their production output, however I strongly believe this bunnahabhain peated stock.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for something a little different.

Impressive - on the nose it reflects it’s description on the main label, which is not entirely pleasant but on the palate it’s truly special. Highly recommended, especially as its smoky/peatiness is well integrated and not at all over powering. Definitely Islay but at cask strength it’s powerful but still smith and refined.

This is seriously underrated!

I really struggled to find many reviews (videos or written) but decided to give it a whirl anyway, and I'm sooo glad I did! This is absolutely delicious. There's a sweet element in here that is just singing to me, even though I've not had a glass for a few days and with that BBQ peat smoke on top, just mmmmm. Seriously if you like Uigeadail, then give this a go. I don't suppose it's as huge a slap in the face as Oogy, similar flavours, I'd say just a bit more refined. I seriously hope this doesn't get discontinued ever! And I look forward to future batches. For now I'll be enjoying MOM's best kept not so secret! (I'm sure if this had a distillery on the label it would fly out! More for those who know I guess!)

Tastes like Uigeadail used to.

Massive coffee and cigar box on the nose - the MoM tram have got it just right. I also get loads of Sherry soaked raisins and dark chocolate. The palate is very grown-up - intricate spice and complex layers of leather and camphor. Finish that lasts minutes. This is a big, bold, uncompromising smack in the face to the established brands. Bravo.
