Seaweed & Aeons CS #003 Bottling Note

Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire is a fabulous single malt all the way from Islay, matured for 10 years, including 25% of it having been finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry octaves. Now, what we've got here is that very same whisky, but bottled up at cask strength! The bumped-up ABV helps to reinforce the coastal focus of the dram, while also bolstering the wonderfully sherried notes, resulting in a fantastically full-flavoured expression. Still no hints as to which distillery it comes from, mind. The label certainly isn't giving anything away, though it is pleasingly straightforward and to the point.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Dulse, sultana, honeyed apricot, oatcakes, rock pools and beach bonfires.

Palate: Richly smoky with BBQ char and maritime peat, juxtaposed with hints of fruity sherry and a few squares of dark chocolate.

Finish: Spiced hot chocolate, toasted cedar, burnt ends, scorched barley.

Overall: It wears its Islay heart on its sleeve, this one, but that doesn't mean it's uncomplex in the slightest.

Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire 10 Year Old Cask Strength (Batch 03) Reviews

Islay at its best

This is a BIG whisky- Islay through and through. At 56%, it can take a fair bit of water so you can adjust to suit your taste. It has a long finish, too, so much so it's still there the next morning!

Excellent

What a fabulous powerful yet well balanced dram. A very appropriately named single malt. Worthy of sitting on the side of Islay seafront and sipping this nectar in to the small hours. Please enjoy 😊

A welcome stranger.

Cask strength, so it will take a spot of water. Lovely dram for the dark winter nights. One to savour. Ridiculously well balanced, hints of fruit cake from the sherry, a whiff of smoke, pinch of salt with dark chocolate. It's rich without being overwhelming. A welcome stranger.

Hits the spot!

Really good mystery malt from Islay! Great value for money considering it is cask strength and has an age statement.

Best value for money whiskey

This is a great whisky. Really individual, complex, flavour. As a warning the salty goodness at the start of sip makes this incredibly moreish.

Amazing

My god, this is a good whisky. Full flavoured with a chilli kick. Wonderful.

Taste like its name

Strong taste, a little bit like Corryvreckan.

So good for the price, it feels like stealing

This is REALLY good stuff, an absolute steal. Even a wisp of smoke on opening! Just a beautiful nose, sweet, smoked fish and dare I say cheesey, similarly to an Octomore. On that, my guess is Bruichladdich, but could be Lagavulin.

Excellent palate too. Big sherry hit, lots of dark dried fruit, quite tannic, dark wet soil, umami. There's a nice, pleasant organic quality to it. "Digging" is really apt, but this is pleasant, earthy soil.
The smoke is more gentle but still quite forward. Drifts away beautifully.

After adding just a few drops of water... whoof. A minty opening on the nose, brings that meatiness to the fore. Tiny bit of coffee comes up on the palate, dark chocolate. Complex. Also for cask strength this is actually perfectly fine as it is. No harshness.

For the price it's amazing. Up there with way more expensive offerings. Exceptional stuff. Well done Atom Labs, genius sourcing! Bought on sale at £39 which is practically stealing imo, at £50 this is still a big hitter for the price.
