A great Islay single malt from an unnamed distillery. The Ileach always scores well with the critics, this cask strength edition was awarded a mindblowingly high 97 points by Jim Murray in his 2010 Whisky Bible.
A great whisky to end the night. Not to be taken lightly as it packs a punch, being a total heretic I prefer it over ice which to my mind enhances the flavour and softens it just enough
A nice tarry taste with an underlying sweetness that delivers a lasting fiery finish. An excellent whisky to end the evening.
This is very rapidly becoming my favourite Islay Whisky! Please don’t ask my why, it’s just that there is this something that really appeals to me!
Wary to begin with because of the nose... rather unpleasant oily manure odour. Left it for half an hour, warming in my palm, then tasted but far too astringent and course without water for me, so added three lots of 5mls, with tasting between each addition. I found both the 10mls and 15mls enhance the experience and tame the beast releasing an assortment of flavour associations that seem to change each time I have a dram. The most significant finding was that after nursing it for a couple of hours, there is no burn, flavours are enhanced and the aftertaste of smoke is deliciously pleasant and lingers long...over 5 minutes, which is exactly what I was hoping for... but it needs coaxing out. Delicious. (still hate the nose)
Great. A little harsh & I drink it with 10% water
